I’m in the middle of NaNoWriMo. National Novel Writing Month is when crazy people like me take the challenge to write 50,000 words in a month. I know I can do it. I’ve written more than that many times over the years but I do love the madness of November when I have companionship on the journey.
I’m a little behind the eight-ball since I had dinner with my cousin last night when I could have been doing some word count or- gasp- this blog post. I totally blew it all off to see her. She lives about five hours from me in northern Alabama and we don’t get to see each other much so since she was in the next town over for a conference, we had a last-minute dinner date with her and her lovely husband. They are such a cute couple. She is ten years younger than me and has her doctorate in education. She’s very much a happy person and so is her husband. They do my heart good when we’re together. It was a fun evening and we made a vow not to let so many years go by again before we get together.
I love the month of November. It’s such a pleasant one for us weather-wise that I enjoy being outdoors and going to events all over the area. This weekend, I think I’m going to go to a festival in Biloxi- it’s about an hour and a half from here so we’ll see if I actually go or if I decide that’s a good day to get some big word count in for #NaNoWriMo. I’m just as likely to curl up on the couch and read a book, though.
Here’s hoping your November is shaping up to be a great one.

You know you have way too much on your plate when you have the first Wednesday and the third Monday of the month to blog and you’re grooving along thinking your blog post is due on Wednesday, the 18th and it was actually due on Monday, the 16th. So, what can I say? I’m a dolt. The old noggin is on overload and I’m sorry I missed my day. I hope you all had a nice Martin Luther King, Jr. day. I didn’t. It was a crazy, stressful, jump in front of traffic if there was any in my neighborhood kinda day.
I wish I had something fun to share like a trip to the Dominican Republic or a grand-daughter who loved me oodles and bunches, but I’m fresh out of that kind of stuff. I could totally sleep for a week, but that’s not gonna happen either so I’ll plug along. I hope you all have a successful week and I’ll do my level best to keep my dates straight from now on.
Here’s a picture of a stairway that may or may not be a stairway to nowhere- where I feel like I am right now. I keep climbing, but seem to make no progress.
Welcome 2012. I hope this will be an amazing year for all of us. I’m enjoying being a part of this blogging community and think all of you are wonderful ladies and I’m lucky to have you all in my lives. We don’t say it enough in this life and I wanted to take this moment when the year is new and tell you all how much each of you have been a blessing in my life.
It’s funny how we make friendships on line and feel more of a bond with the folks we have things in common with all around the world than sometimes we have with our own backyard neighbors. This blog is well-named since we are all a long way from each other, but we’ve gotten to know each other as if we were having a cup of coffee or tea over the fence.
I’m happy to have you all as my neighbors and wanted to say so. Now, enough of all the sentimentality, and let me show you a couple of cool shots I took when I was way away from my own backyard fence and in England for Christmas. I was lucky enough to have the chance to spend a week over there and have some quality time with the family.
