Christmas – In Song

Jillian here. I promise I had my idea for this post before I saw Lavada’s Elvis song. 🙂 I thought I’d share some links to some of my favorite Christmas songs.

My all time favorite is Do you Hear What I Hear by Bing Crosby

Michael Crawford (the original Phantom of the Opera) has a fab Christmas album. My two favs on there are Mary Did You Know and Strange Way to Save the World. The second one always makes me tear up.

Harry Belafonte’s Mary’s Boy Child is another one I love.

A bouncier song is Vince Vance and the Valiants All I Want for Christmas is You – It is def not the Mariah version and I like it much better.

I adore the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Their song, Dream Child is one I listen to over and over. I could only find a live version of it, so I am linking to the words as they are so beautiful.

Seth McFarlane can be vulgar in his comedy, but he does have a wonderful Christmas album. His gift for voices shines in the album songs.

What about you? What are some of your Favorites? And let me know if I screwed up any of the links! Happy December!

  1. There are some new songs here I’ll be checking out. Have you ever seen the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version of Do You Hear What I Hear? I love that version!
And Mary Did you Know is one of my favorite holiday songs. Pentatonix did a great version, too.
Chestnuts Roasting on an Open fire is another great song, eh?
I’d better stop here before I can’t stop. Lol.

    • LOL!  I could have gone on forever too.  I have heard the duet with Bing and David Little Drummer Boy,  but not the Do You Hear one. I will find it and listen. Mary Did You Know is amazing.  I DO also like some happy ones, but these are the top of  my list.  🙂  I have the Partridge Family Christmas album from forever ago and it has the saddest ever version of Frosty.  I always say, “David, David, David, this is supposed to be happy!  LOL

  2. I love music this time of year. Like the ornaments I put up every year they bring memories. Thank you Jillian.

  3. Some new songs I’ll be checking out, Jillian. Some of my favourites are The Little Drummer Boy by Bing and Bowie; and I love the Pogues Fairytale of New York. It’s not technically a Christmas song, but I love Winter’s Light sung by Linda Ronstadt, especially at this time of year.

    • Oooh,  I will have to check out the Linda R one and the Pogues fairytale.  I am not familiar with those.  I also love that version of the Little Drummer Boy.

  4. As Tricia has said, some new songs there for me too. Don’t know if you can access Spotify, but I have just found this link to Dream Child on it. https://open.spotify.com/track/0nJHJyi9A4IG8CdHG6tGPV.
Little Drummer Boy one of my favourites songs, but there are so many including Fairytale of New York, very popular in UK, there are far too many to mention. One is White Christmas by Bing Crosby – gets me all emotional and tearful! 🙂

    • I have the CDs of all the TSO songs and listen to Dream Child all year. I just didn’t want to post a link to the live version as it’s better and more moving without the audience sounds. I’m going to check out the Farytale one. It’s new to me. And I love Bing’s versions of every Christmas song. He had such a lovely voice. White Christmas is a fav for sure. And I love the movie, too.
