Book Review- Second Sight by Dax Varley

Jillian here. I’m posting a book review since I will  be in Paris when this is due to post. I’m afraid I’ll forget to post so I figured I’d share a book I’ve read lately. It’s more a novella but it was a quick, fun read.

I picked it up as it was a story about a teen with a bit of a magical gift and I’ve recently published one so I wanted to compare a little bit about the teen “voice” –  The main character in this story buys a pair of funky sunglasses in a resale shop and starts to “see the future” – chaos ensues.

It took me less than 2 hours to read this one and it was really an amusing break in the day. I know we all have huge TBR piles but this one is fast and moves at breakneck speed. 51kJs06+xOL__BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-v3-big,TopRight,0,-55_SX278_SY278_PIkin4,BottomRight,1,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_

Here’s what I said on Amazon about it:

I loved the sassy heroine. Her dialogue was great and her relationship with her friends was a neat facet of the story. I adored how she interacted with her dad. They were so cute and witty.A quick read but lessons are learned and the heroine does grow in her maturity. A great teen story

  1. Oooh, I love a good YA! Thanks for the rec. And congratulations on your new book! And Paris??? August is an excellent month for you, it’s looking like. Have a BLAST!

    • Hey, Laurie. Thank goodness I set this to go off before I left. Forgot it was my day! Lol- and this is a short little story so I didn’t feel guilty about adding to TBR lists. Haha Thanks for the congrats! Having fun but wearing myself out.

  2. Thinking of you in Paris. I don’t read a lot of YA and not sure why as I really like the ones I’ve read. Have to try this one as it sounds like a break from my usual genre’s. And, echoing Laurie’s congrats on your new book.

    • Thanks for the good wishes on the new book. I love to read YA. They are quick and easy for me when I need a fast trip to another place. Having nice time in Paris but as you know, I’m a menace to myself. I just stepped in a hole and fell. Cripes.

  3. Oh, no! I hope the wrist didn’t turn into a big thing and isn’t stopping you from enjoying the trip. You and I…we are NEVER allowed to walk side-by-side. I am a big klutz. We’ll take each other out! Lol.

    • Lol. We def would, Laurie. And interestingly, by the next day, it was my big toe that hurt like hell. Wrist still tender. Toe is bad. It would be better if I could rest it longer than overnight but too much we still want to see so I plod on. Haha

  4. Thanks for the review, Jillian, and hope you’re having a great time in Paris despite your fall. Ouch! Trust the wrist, and toe, are improving.

  5. Thanks for review. Not really into YA but will look out for it. Hope Paris trip when well and looking forward to hearing all about it. 🙂
