Jillian here. Is it just me or is this year speeding by? I can barely believe it’s already the 8th month of the year. Wow.
Exciting things coming up this month. The first was I got my cast off and am healed and for that, I’m grateful. The second is that I’m heading out on the 13th on a mother/son adventure to Paris. I’m excited but a little torn about it since I always, always have some craziness at the office before I take off on a trip like this so I’m wondering what that’s going to be (lol) and I’m also dreading that long overnight flight. I absolutely love being new places and exploring wonderful things but man, I hate the getting there part.
Anyone have any advice on what not to miss in Paris? I know all the major things but maybe some hidden jewel? I’m looking forward to picking up some Napoleon research books as I may be participating in an anthology commemorating the 200th anniversary of Waterloo in June of next year. I’ve been invited and I accepted but I need to write the story by December so we’ll see (no contract signed!) how I do. I think I can knock it out since it’s only 20,000 words (yeah right, ONLY). 
And pictures, of course I’m looking forward to playing with my camera and getting some great shots. Son and I usually compete with our photography on trips. We both love it so.

Wow, the trip came up fast. I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling like life is speeding by. Remember when we were kids and time between Christmas’s felt like forever? Umm Paris, we haven’t been to France so can’t help you with any experience but there is so much to see and do and I have no doubt you’ll find those nuggets of places and things to take pictures of. Looking forward to seeing your future posts.
And major congrats on getting the cast off. Now stay upright! No more skidding around on marking pens.
I DO remember that. Was just talking about it the other day- Christmas took forever but now itâs always here (of course stores putting out merchandise in the summer doesnât help)- And yeah, time is galloping.

You’d better take lots of pictures. You know we live vicariously through these travels of yours. I can’t think of anything, but I’d certainly love to walk the halls of the Louvre. Have a wonderful time!

Ah, Jillian, Paris is one of my favourite cities. If you love Impressionist art, visit the Musee Martmottan (http://www.marmottan.fr/uk/), and of course the Musee D’Orsay. A trip up the Eiffel Tower at night is magical, go as late as you can. I took my mum up on the last trip before it closed for the night and she hasn’t stopped talking about it since! Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Hausmann, an upmarket department store with the most fabulous stained glass domed ceiling. And it sounds like Napoleon’s Tomb is a must-see for you. The strangest thing happened when we visited and I took photos…all the photos of my trip came out except the ones in Napoleon’s Tomb. Very strange. . A little further afield is Monet’s Garden, which is available as a tour from Paris. Bon Voyage!!

Have never been to Paris so cannot advise but see our Tricia has done a fab job for you. Have a safe and wonderful time and hope to see lots of photos. As to it being August already… just seen a post on FB that Christmas is only 20 weeks away – now, that is scary! 🙂

This is the son who lives at home that I’m going with, Valerie. My other son- who lived in the UK -has moved back to the states and is living and working in Rhode Island. This son I am going with is a great travel companion. He and I went to Italy a few years ago and had a great time.
