Trips and Getting Ready

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThey say part of traveling is the anticipation and for me it’s true. Back in the days when I was working and needing to clear my desk plus leave the house, pets, yard etc. ready for a two weeks absence I would fret and stress until the car pulled out of the drive. Then like a blanket being lifted it would all fall away and I would be in vacation mode. And now, with not working, and only the cat the stress of getting ready isn’t nearly as much and yet I still organize the heck out of getting ready to leave.

Of course one reason I can travel with good feelings is my family. They step in and take care of it all for me. This will be the first time Rue (cat) will be left without her buddy Abby but the kids took Abby home with them a lot so Rue didn’t have her 100% of the time. She no doubt will get a little lonely but family and friends will stop in to take care of the water, feed and litter box and even stay to visit with her so she won’t be ‘all’ by herself.

Over the years Jack and I have been fortunate to be able to travel, road trips, month long snowbird excursions and international trips so getting ready has gotten easier as we do it more. Even with experience I find that without lists I forget things. So one year I put the first list on the computer and when the next vacation came along I took that list, made a copy and enhanced it for the current trip. Over the years I have a number of lists so I can pick one that is close to the one I’m planning.

I also am fortunate to have a spare room so I can start the packing process early. No excuses for forgetting things and yet I do. A toothbrush, and toothpaste seem to be the two most frequently forgotten items.

Guess you can tell I’m soooo ready for a vacation. This one promises to be fun. I’ll fill you all in on the trip when I get back.

  1. My wife is a huge believer in having a ‘Travel List.’ She always pulls out her list. lol

Yeah, I love vacations–who doesn’t? Have a great time and nice to see all is taken care of.

    • Thanks for stopping by and commenting Frank. This road trip is fun. Traveling with 3 cousins and meeting up with a 4th. Right now sitting back with a cup of coffee before the day begins.

  2. I can’t pack without a list. LoL. Hope you didn’t forget anything. 🙂

  3. Have a super fun trip send pictures

  4. Love the idea of making a list for travelling. I usually forget something, so this would certainly be a good idea. Though I always pack way more than needed, too.

Really looking forward to hearing more about your trip. Hope you’ve got plenty of photos 🙂

I always pack the night before the morning we leave. Just seems easier to me than fretting over it in advance. I never use a list, but it does sound like a good idea. 😛 If I forget anything, it is usually the toothbrushes OR the toothpaste. I have been known to pack one without the other. *shrugs* Not sure why!

Safe travels to you, Lavada. Have a great time!! 😛

  6. I agree, Lavada! 🙂

  7. I used to pack well in advance, then unpack, repack and change my mind what to take on countless occasions. Now I through everything in at the last minute with the thought that if I’ve forgotten something, I can make do without or buy new when away. Hope you have a wonderful time, Lavada. Keep safe. 🙂

  8. Wow, Kit one time packing is enough for me but I might start unpacking some stuff in the future.

  9. I always pack the same day I leave unless it’s at 4 am. LOL! I hope you have fun!!!

    • Thank Jillian, It was a great trip. I hadn’t realized how talented my cousin is with jewelry design and the shows were great. Santa Monica and Culvert City was an experience. We had dinner at a place across the street from Harrison Ford’s son’s restaurant and a theater owned by Burt Reynolds. Pretty Yuppie.

I do better packing if I do it the night before as I almost always remember something and I’m dozing off to sleep.

      • that sounds like a great time. What a cool thing to do- jewelry shows are fun but I’ve never been as an insider.

I always remember stuff when I’ve left the house. LOL!
