I have a good friend who’s favorite day of the year is the Summer Solstice. You know why? Because she loves sunshine, warmth, and daylight. And the beginning of Summer has more hours of daylight than any other day of the year.
This got me to wondering if I could pick my favorite day of the year? What is the one day that stands out among all others? Christmas? It’s a favorite for a lot of people. And don’t get me wrong, I love everything around the holiday. But there’s a lot of work involved with Christmas, too. So I don’t think that’s top of my list.
I know people who live for Halloween. They spend all year working up new creepy-crawly decorations and costumes. Not me. I could pass on Halloween quite easily.
For me, my favorite day of the year is tied to a season, like my friend’s. Only mine heralds the season of renewal. The first day of Spring. It brings new color, new life, and a new freshness that I find irresistible.
What about you? Do you have a favorite day of the year? Someone’s birthday, perhaps? Or a day that has feel-good significance to you?
I don’t think I have an absolute favorite. The day of Spring is a significant one for our family and I like the first day of fall. Not so much Winter though. And, I’m loving today. A cool breeze is flowing around the backyard and through the windows. After the 85 degrees of yesterday it feels good.
I know what you mean about not having a favorite day. I had to think long and hard to come up with one that felt more important to me personally than any other. 🙂 So glad you’ve got the pleasant weather!
Yes, not easy to pick a favourite day, but I’d say one of mine would be the day the clocks go forward an hour in March each year. That signals the start of British Summertime. Such a great feeling to think that the days are starting to get longer with all the delights of summer stretched out ahead. Lovely.
I hadn’t thought about that but mine would be the fall one when the times falls back an hour because I get an extra hour of sleep. It used to be a real big favorite when I was working and had to get up early like set an alarm early. YUCK!
LOL! Yes, there’s always that lovely extra hour 🙂
Oh, yes, we all love that extra hour of sleep. Heaven! 🙂
I love fall so I wouldpick the first day of fall. Things seem to slow down. Calving is over, the garden is almost done and the hay is in the barn. Time to settle down with a good book or go to a soccer game!!!
As busy as life on a farm is, I can see how Fall can become your favorite season. I like them all, but would pick winter second. It’s the hibernation thing. I crave it after a busy Spring, Summer, and Fall. lol
My absolute favorite day of the year? My anniversary. I love celebrating with Steve and we’re always on vacation for our anniversary. It’s always such a good day for us both. 😛
Ahhh, that’s a GREAT day to love. I’m trying to remember. Does Steve plan these vacations? Do I have that right? Either way, being in a relaxed state is always a good day. 🙂
Yep, Steve does the planning, and it always a surprise. He’s really very good at it.
HAPPY AUGUST!!!! 😛 😛
Hard question but I think I have to agree with Tricia on it being the day the clocks go forward (though I wish they would scrap that now). For me it marks the end of winter and the anticipation of the coming warmer and longer days of daylight and early morning coffees in the garden.
Which brings us full circle to my friend, who likes the longest day of the year best. 🙂 This has been a fun discussion.
Early mornings in your garden sound lovely! What a great way to begin each new day…surrounded by fragrant beauty!!! 😛
It’s renewing when we can spend time like that, isn’t it? That phrase “stop and smell the roses” has a lot of intelligence behind it. 🙂
Nice choice. I don’t really have a favorite day, per se but I do have a favorite season- I love, love fall. We don’t get much here but I adore that little cool spell with the lovely smell of smoke in the air.
The smell of smoke in the air? Every fall? What’s that from?
burning leaves. that’s what everyone here does.
Ahhh. That explains why I didn’t know. No one here burns leaves, well, not near urban areas. We strictly regulate here with lots of burn bans.
