A friend made this recipe and this is what she says “I just made the homemade 1,000 Island dressing. I cut the sugar in half since some people had said it was too sweet. Don’t make it. I just licked the spoon and it might make you never want to buy store bought again. It looked like it made such a little amount that I quadrupled the recipe. I figured it would save for a week in the fridge.”
The recipe says it serves 5 but I would imagine it would depend on how much dressing you put on your salad. ☺
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon white vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon white onion, finely minced
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 dash black pepper
Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl. Stir well.
Place dressing in a covered container and refrigerate for several hours, stirring occasionally, so that the sugar dissolves and the flavors blend.
