Family Time and the Weather

It’s been a strange week here. In four days, we had weather alerts for snow, ice storm, flooding, and wind. At our house, we lost power for 3 days and phone, tv, and internet for 4. We’re back to normal now…sort of. We still have a yard to clean up but I’d sure like to see it stop raining, winding, and be a little warmer before we tackle that. Lots of branches down.

It’s funny timing that this weather blew in at the tail end of our annual family cabin weekend. We got very, very lucky weather-wise. This cabin is up in the mountains. We got there via clear roads on Friday. After the last of the family arrived, it started to snow and kept going all weekend. It was beautiful and we enjoyed it immensely. Then it stopped snowing Sunday night, making our trip hope uneventful (I didn’t chew off a single nail.)

We got our daughter and her boyfriend to the airport on Tuesday and then, on Wednesday, Mother Nature said that’s enough and dumped on us.

So I have to thank Mom Nature for being nice to us. It was one of the best winter weekends we’ve had. We had great food (breakfast casseroles, ham, fettucini, etc.). We played aLOTof games (Pictionary, dice/Zilch, Hearts, etc.). We watched football. And, since we had lots of snow and a sledding hill right behind the cabin, there was a lot of sledding. We even had some intrepid family members go NIGHT sledding. Not me. I stayed inside and enjoyed the warm cabin.

I feel very humbled to have such wonderful children and grandchildren. And very blessed to have this time with them each year.

  1. Love the pictures. You have a beautiful family thanks for sharing.

We’re going to be leaving for the airport in about 3 hours. We hate to leave the sunshine but it will be good to be home too. We sure missed a storm. Thankfully we have Kris( daughter) holding down the fort.

  2. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful family. The time together makes for many precious memories 🙂

It sounds like you had a wonderful family holiday! Such excellent memory building activities! More families need to spend quality time together having fun. You and yours have the right idea.

  4. Lovely photos, Laurie. You certainly enjoy your family, which is how it should be. Something that seems to get lost for a lot of folks these days in the hubbub of daily life.

    • Hi, Tricia. Yep, family is everything. Well, family and power. After some snow and ice storms here, we’re back in action. But no power for 3 days got old…quick. 🙂

  5. WOW! You were really living right to get the weather to be so cooperative. I’m glad you had a wonderful time and that you didn’t get snowed in up the mountain.

Your family is lovely and sounds like you all had a grand visit.

  6. I could certainly handle the being snowed in. And two of my kids could have telecommuted for work. The cost of renting extra nights would have been tough, though. 🙂
Yep. We had a wonderful time. I’m so grateful for these family weekends.
