Summer’s back!

Last weekend I packed away my summer clothes having spent the previous few days and nights shivering as the weather turned chilly. I dug out my autumn/winter gear and with regret said goodbye to tee shirts and linen trousers for the foreseeable future. Then back came the sun!

It’s unseasonably hot and sunny here in the UK right now with temperatures in the mid to late 20s.. Yesterday was the hottest autumn day in England since the 1890s. We’re all enjoying an Indian Summer At least we humans are. The poor plants and insects are finding things pretty confusing.

Gardeners at Kew Gardens report that plants are flowering as if it’s spring, with some shrubs displaying flowers even as their leaves change colour ready for autumn.

The insects are confused, too. In early September, when the weather here grew really chilly, the spiders started their annual autumnal march into the house searching for warmth. Now all is quiet with this warm weather and I just hope that when this hot spell is over, we don’t have another invasion of the creepy crawlies inside the home. Once a year is enough, thank you πŸ™‚

We have a few more days of good weather forecast, so we’re heading out this weekend to make the most of it. Dogs are allowed on the beaches here in the UK from today, so looks like Zorro will get his first taste of the seaside.

Wherever you are in the world, have a great weekend.

  1. This is the kind of weather we’re having in the Pacific Northwest. A few days of using the A/C then it rains, well really I guess pours, then turns cold. Yesterday went out on the lake in just light jackets. And, it was around 6:00. The night before we would have froze.

Take some pictures of Zorro at the beach. Would love to see them.

  2. One last blast of sunshine before autumn really digs in, eh? I am enjoying the sunshine here, also. But a part of me is already “stocking up for winter”. I like the changing seasons. Have fun at the beach. I hope Zorro finds out he likes the water. πŸ™‚ And I agree with Lavada on the pictures. We’d love to see an update on your puppy. πŸ™‚

  3. Hope you have a fantastic bonus summer weekend! πŸ™‚ Here in Florida, we haven’t really seen fall yet, but I’m optimistic it’ll be here soon.

  4. Hi, Tricia

We only live about 40 miles from the coast and we headed there today. Had a lovely time walking along the beach! After a thoroughly disappointing summer, we now have some warm weather! Have a great day tomorrow.

  5. I am sorting clothing for two reasons … one, because it’s autumn and two, because I’m losing weight. Great fun!

I love the autumn for the variety in weather. We get to have a bit of both in the Pacific Northwest of WA State … summer and wintery, windy, rain heralding the arrival of winter. Enjoy your day at the beach!

Our summer was hot and humid and wet! But it turned cold last evening and I wonder if it’s here to stay. While I enjoy all the seasons, autumn just seems to get dressed up and ready for winter!

  7. It’s cold and gray and drizzlly here in Washington state this weekend. Not happy.
    JH!

  8. I hope you enjoyed the warm weather! My son is over there at the Univ of Sheffield and he was unhappy because the windows don’t open far enough for his hot-blooded self. LOL! He was excited to get there and hopeful for cooler weather than we get here at home. I think he’ll get more than he bargained for before the season is over. HEHEHE.

I hope the beach was fun and not over crowded for you!

  9. Planned to take loads of photos at the beach, Lavada and Laurie, but alas Zorro’s little tummy didn’t make the trip. We stopped off about half way there and had a fun time in the park instead. Will have to work up to the beach.

  10. Well, our summer is over today, Jamie, and autumn has arrived. It’s very windy right now and rain is on the way *sigh*

  11. Glad you enjoyed the weather and your beach walk, Jan. Summer’s gone here in the south and the wind’s picking up as I type. Hey ho…

  12. Oh, sorting clothes following a healthy weight loss is fun, Marion. I love autumn clothes, but much prefer summer ones. I’m keeping my sandals on until the very last πŸ™‚

  13. Oh, Valerie. Hot, humid and wet. Yuk. Hope your autumn arrives soon and you get some nicer temps.

  14. LOL, Janette. I’d be pretty unhappy too πŸ™‚ Hope it improves soon.

  15. Oh, Jillian, tell your son not to worry, he’ll soon get his wish!
