Chocolate Rum Truffles…mmm

I thought I would share with you all my recipe for chocolate rum truffles. Way back I used to be a pastry chef for a bakery, and this is how we made them.  We never measured the ingredients.

This is a great way for using up whatever is available.

Cake crumbs
Melted Chocolate
Jam to taste (jelly in the US I think)
Chocolate shavings or vermicelli
Chopped nuts.

And of course rum to flavour.

Mix the cake crumbs and jam, with melted chocolate until a suitable consistency is reached. You should be able to roll them into balls without them breaking apart. Flavour as required with rum. Dark rum preferred.

Dip the rum truffles into melted chocolate and then roll into various coatings. Chopped nuts, chocolate vermicelli, or chocolate shavings. Place in a refrigerator to harden, and then serve in paper cases. Dust with icing sugar for added Christmas appeal.

You’ll be amazed at how great they taste!! And no one will ever guess they’re made with just cake crumbs. These are always popular with everyone.

  1. Oh, yum, Jan! These sound delightful! I’m printing this and putting it in my “to be tried” pile.

  2. Great Laurie. They last for a weeks, too, because of all the sugar acting as a preservative. 🙂

  3. These sound sooooo good and they look easy which is a must for me.

  4. Very easy, Lavada, plus you can use up all those cake crumbs. 🙂

  5. This is another one I think I could manage, Jan. Sounds absolutely yummy!

  6. Very yummy, Tricia. They taste expensive, too. 🙂
